Painting and Stamping with Bleach

You will need - a stamp or two, ink and embossing powder, some coloured card stock (I use mat board), an old paint brush, some bleach and something to put the bleach in (I use a jar lid), and, if you want, some water colour paints (I use twinkling h2o's)

Make sure you are in a ventilated area!

Stamp and emboss your image on coloured card.

Pour some bleach into a small holder (I use a jar lid) and paint the areas you want to bleach. Don't use your good sable brushes and make sure you rinse them immediately after use

You will see the bleach start to work immediately. You can speed up the bleaching process by heating your work, but waiting a few minutes also works!

Think outside the square, don't just bleach inside the image. I've bleached only part of the butterfly's wings and then outside the butterfly, all of it's wings and not outside, and, on the red one, dropped bits of bleach and let them run into each other to form splotches.

Once the bleach has removed as much colour as it can you can either leave it as it is or paint all or part of the bleached area.

Here I painted the floral bits inside the wings, but left the background "bleachy blotched"

Here are the butterflies, no paint just bleach.

Three sets of leaves. The brown one was left pretty much as it was except I ran some gold along the edges of a couple of key leaves. The other two were painted with twinkling h2o water colours.

The bleached bit of the butterfly was painted with pink and blue twinkling h2o, the leaves and stem of the flower were painted as well, but the petals are just bleached. After the bleach dried I went over every couple of petals with bleach a second time to get the variegated effect.
You can also use bleach directly on your stamp. Wad up some kitchen paper or towelling and pour your bleach onto that to make a temporary stamp pad. Tap your stamp onto this and then onto your card. The bleach WILL harm the rubber - rinse off IMMEDIATELY! I don't have an image for this, you will just have to try it yourself :)
